Designed as the lexical companion to Wikipedia, the encyclopaedia project, Wiktionary has grown beyond a standard dictionary and now includes a thesaurus, a rhyme guide, phrase books, language statistics and extensive appendices. We aim to include not only the definition of a word, but also enough information to really understand it. Thus etymologies, pronunciations, sample quotations, synonyms, antonyms and translations are included. Mixed media, in visual art, refers to an artwork in the making of which more than one medium has been employed. There is an important distinction between "mixed-media" artworks and "multimedia art". Mixed media tends to refer to a work of visual art that combines various traditionally distinct visual art media. For example, a work on canvas that combines paint, ink, and collage could properly be called a "mixed media" work - but not a work of "multimedia art." The term multimedia art implies a broader scope than mixed media, combining visual art with non-visual elements (such as recorded sound, for example) or with elements of the other arts (such as literature, drama, dance, motion graphics, music, or interactivity). When creating a painted or photographed work using mixed media it is important to choose the layers carefully and allow enough drying time between the layers to ensure the final work will have integrity. If many different media are used it is equally important to choose a sturdy foundation upon which the different layers are imposed. A phrase sometimes used in relationship to mixed media is, "Fat over lean." In other words: "don't start with oil paints. Plan to make them the final layer." Many interesting effects can be achieved by using mixed media. Often, found objects are used in conjunction with traditional artist media, such as paints and graphite, to express a meaning in the everyday life. In this manner, many different elements of art become more flexible than with traditional artist media. From Wikipedia under the

Q. Should I just use a heavy watercolor paper? Or would artboard be better? Asked by Jes - Mon Aug 25 20:13:33 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. My first choice would be watercolour paper - 300lb would be best. "Art Board" (I guess you mean illustration board?) can de-laminate if you adhere something too heavy on it... the paper layers separate. Also, those boards tend to warp when used with wet media like acrylics. Another option is to use stretched canvas, canvas panel or sealed hardboard that has been coated with a specific acrylic medium that accepts watercolour: some examples are Golden's Light Modeling Paste, Coarse Modeling Paste or Absorbent Ground. I have used all of these for acrylic/watercolour/mixed media with great results. Answered by joyfulpaints - Mon Aug 25 21:33:24 2008 when doing mixed media work, how can i make shiny collage images from magazines matt to match the rest? Q. i want these shiny magazine images to blend in with the water soluble oil pastels, paints, crayons and pencils and pens etc. which create a matt effect. i live a small town in north india with very limited art supplies and so do not have access to modern acrylic gel mediums etc. Asked by simply.saxifrage - Tue Aug 19 09:14:10 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Test a piece that you're not going to use, or another page, by putting it in warm water for at least 8 hours then dry it in the sun. You can test more hours or less, to see what will satisfy you. Then you can do it with your piece. Answered by RC - Sat Aug 23 05:02:08 2008 Can anybody help me by telling how mixed media works????
Q. I need to make a picture of birds with mixed media, but I don't understand how to actually build it up.Do u paint 1 part with oil paint and draw the other with charcoal. I get that I must use more than 1 medium. Can anyone explain how it really works, plz... Asked by elif k - Sun Apr 15 05:44:59 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. I have done a few mixed-media pieces, but wouldn't say I'm experienced. When I do illustrations sometimes I used watercolor over a sketch and once the watercolors are dried I go over with Prismacolor pencils to add detail and depth, you could also do this with charcoal. You can also do Watercolor and then when the watercolor is dry go over with acrylic. Simple things like that. Not sure if I helped, but I tried. ;) -Kate AIM: Leftofnowhere Answered by katherinemharneck - Sun Apr 15 06:57:08 2007 From Yahoo Answer Search: "mixed media" From Wikiquote under the GNU Free Documentation License.
