Mixed media, in visual art, refers to an artwork in the making of which more than one medium has been employed. There is an important distinction between "mixed-media" artworks and "multimedia art". Mixed media tends to refer to a work of visual art that combines various traditionally distinct visual art media. For example, a work on canvas that combines paint, ink, and collage could properly be called a "mixed media" work - but not a work of "multimedia art." The term multimedia art implies a broader scope than mixed media, combining visual art with non-visual elements (such as recorded sound, for example) or with elements of the other arts (such as literature, drama, dance, motion graphics, music, or interactivity). When creating a painted or photographed work using mixed media it is important to choose the layers carefully and allow enough drying time between the layers to ensure the final work will have integrity. If many different media are used it is equally important to choose a sturdy foundation upon which the different layers are imposed. A phrase sometimes used in relationship to mixed media is, "Fat over lean." In other words: "don't start with oil paints. Plan to make them the final layer." Many interesting effects can be achieved by using mixed media. Often, found objects are used in conjunction with traditional artist media, such as paints and graphite, to express a meaning in the everyday life. In this manner, many different elements of art become more flexible than with traditional artist media. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How can I create a mixed media collage with watercolor and textured paper? Q. I am interested in creating a watercolor collage. I have Bristol board and watercolor paper. Which is better? What do I use as an adhesive for the textured paper? and do I paint a glaze over the collage? or over the entire painting? Asked by Kare E. D. - Thu Jul 16 08:50:19 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. I would choose Bristol Board. Yes, I would also use a glaze over it after you finish. This is a protection and also it adds another dimension to your Collage. Good luck. Answered by bigmac - Thu Jul 16 09:05:13 2009 when doing mixed media work, how can i make shiny collage images from magazines matt to match the rest? Q. i want these shiny magazine images to blend in with the water soluble oil pastels, paints, crayons and pencils and pens etc. which create a matt effect. i live a small town in north india with very limited art supplies and so do not have access to modern acrylic gel mediums etc. Asked by simply.saxifrage - Tue Aug 19 09:14:10 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Test a piece that you're not going to use, or another page, by putting it in warm water for at least 8 hours then dry it in the sun. You can test more hours or less, to see what will satisfy you. Then you can do it with your piece. Answered by RC - Sat Aug 23 05:02:08 2008 I have a "mixed Media Disk" problem?
Q. I bought some DVDs off of the internet recently that had been burnt by a near-amateur. They play on my computer, but not on my xbox, where it just says "mixed media disk" and won't play it. Anyone know what i can do? Asked by Ben B - Sat May 30 07:25:51 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Your computer can Read the disc cause it was made to read off a computer cause a computer can automatically go in and read the files. The person who burnt it did not do it very well at all. Im sorry to say, but you got ripped off pretty good. If you paid him on paypal, i would demand a refund.
