Mixed media, in visual art, refers to an artwork in the making of which more than one medium has been employed. There is an important distinction between "mixed-media" artworks and "multimedia art". Mixed media tends to refer to a work of visual art that combines various traditionally distinct visual art media. For example, a work on canvas that combines paint, ink, and collage could properly be called a "mixed media" work - but not a work of "multimedia art." The term multimedia art implies a broader scope than mixed media, combining visual art with non-visual elements (such as recorded sound, for example) or with elements of the other arts (such as literature, drama, dance, motion graphics, music, or interactivity). When creating a painted or photographed work using mixed media it is important to choose the layers carefully and allow enough drying time between the layers to ensure the final work will have integrity. If many different media are used it is equally important to choose a sturdy foundation upon which the different layers are imposed. A phrase sometimes used in relationship to mixed media is, "Fat over lean." In other words: "don't start with oil paints. Plan to make them the final layer." Many interesting effects can be achieved by using mixed media. Often, found objects are used in conjunction with traditional artist media, such as paints and graphite, to express a meaning in the everyday life. In this manner, many different elements of art become more flexible than with traditional artist media. From Wikipedia under the

I went to xbox.com and downloaded the update to my laptop but everytime i burn the update to a cd and put it in my 360...the system tells me that i have a mixed media disc in the tray. I have tried restarting the system...reburning the disc, i have tried burning the zip file, the unzipped file, and everything. Can someone please help Asked by hbio - Thu May 29 14:43:26 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. It sounds like the problem is with your burning software. Double check your settings on your burning program. Make sure you have it set to burn a data disc. If it still doesn't work you may want to try out a different burning software. Answered by ToeFurB - Thu May 29 14:47:58 2008 How should I seal my mixed media drawing? Q. I did a drawing using ink, watercolour, and conte (chalk pastel) on paper. Since the conte has a chalky finish that can smudge, I'd like to seal it with something. Any suggestions? The cheaper the better! Q. I am looking into an original way to print out my digital art. I was wondering if it were possible to prepare a canvas using different papers glued to it as well as oil or acrylic paints, and then getting a printer to print the image on top of it, for example, a digital print of a girl on a paper and paint background. Has this been done before, and if not, would it be possible with the use of opaque inks or some other techniques? Asked by Matthew Taillon - Tue May 19 15:27:27 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Most printers have a curved paper path that would probably break all the glue bonds. You would need to use a manual feed tray on an inkjet printer that has a straight paper path. Pigment-based inks should probably show up on acrylic. Most printers use dye-based inks. The HP Vivera inks are pigment, as well as any that claim to be extra-vibrant. If you have a "transparencies" setting on your printer settings, use that - it will allow extra drying time during the print. Paper thickness might also be a problem. Some printers have an "envelope" setting that is designed for extra-thick paper.
