Mixed media, in visual art, refers to an artwork in the making of which more than one medium has been employed. There is an important distinction between "mixed-media" artworks and "multimedia art". Mixed media tends to refer to a work of visual art that combines various traditionally distinct visual art media. For example, a work on canvas that combines paint, ink, and collage could properly be called a "mixed media" work - but not a work of "multimedia art." The term multimedia art implies a broader scope than mixed media, combining visual art with non-visual elements (such as recorded sound, for example) or with elements of the other arts (such as literature, drama, dance, motion graphics, music, or interactivity). Arc Angel, 2009, 30x40 in, is a mixed-media work (oil, acrylic and pigmented ink on stretched canvas) that combines traditional oil painting and modern digital image editing techniques. By Jim McNitt, (b. 1948); used with permission. When creating a painted or photographed work using mixed media it is important to choose the layers carefully and allow enough drying time between the layers to ensure the final work will have integrity. If many different media are used it is equally important to choose a sturdy foundation upon which the different layers are imposed. A phrase sometimes used in relationship to mixed media is, "Fat over lean." In other words: "don't start with oil paints. Plan to make them the final layer." Many interesting effects can be achieved by using mixed media. Often, found objects are used in conjunction with traditional artist media, such as paints and graphite, to express a meaning in the everyday life. In this manner, many different elements of art become more flexible than with traditional artist media. From Wikipedia under the

Can someone please help Asked by hbio - Thu May 29 14:43:26 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. It sounds like the problem is with your burning software. Double check your settings on your burning program. Make sure you have it set to burn a data disc. If it still doesn't work you may want to try out a different burning software. Answered by ToeFurB - Thu May 29 14:47:58 2008 I am looking for ideas on how to mount a transparancy onto a canvas for a mixed scrapbook media idea? Q. I painted a piece of canvas and embellished it with a photo and some decorative paper. I want to add a transparency with a copy of the photo onto the canvas but am having trouble coming up with a way to mount it. I would like to have the transparency be raised up off of the canvas and the rest of the work. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! You could use a hole punch or a needle to make holes in the corners of your transparency, then fasten it to the canvas with metal brads. A little washer or bead can be a spacer. You can find all that stuff in the scrapbooking section of your local craft store. . Yes you can, and you can reproduce the work on textured paper that gives the reproduction the illusion of being an original. [albeit not for close scrutiny] If I were you I would invest in a copy of Photoshop Elements and experiment with the different textures available in that software. With a good printer you can easily mimic many finishes and may even find they are good enough to sell. Otherwise the experiments will give you an idea of how the pic will look on a given textured paper. As for your photography - shadows are the way to enhance the textured 'feel' of your mosaic. So light well but gently and experiment with extra lighting at an angle that enhances the 3d effect of your mosaic without intruding too much.
