Tattoo artists: How do you feel about teenagers coming in to get tattoos?
Q. I've always wondered what thoughts went though your mind when a teen walks in for a tattoo. What about when the tattoo has meaning? No meaning? If you're not a tattoo artists, how would you feel if you were, and this happened? Psalm, I agree with you completely. Sorry about your friend. I know people that have stupid, meaningless tattoos, and I always wonder what the tatooer really thinks of it.

A. I work at a tattoo shop. 16 and 17 year olds that come in with their parents (state law) usually have a good story behind their tattoo. It's not so much the tattoo but the placement. Most young people are doing the wrist or the ribs. The ribs make more sense because these kids do not know how they are going to pay their bills when they are independent. Yes, a wrist tattoo can be covered with a large watch or bracelet, but I suspect they want the tattoo because it is noticeable. Personally I have over 100 tattoos but I would never get my wrist tattooed.

How much do artists make for selling art to wholesale retailers?
Q. I was contacted by a company that sells art in the hospitality market, hotels, large corporations etc they are interested in my artwork. Does anyone know how this market works and how much artists typically make? Can anyone explain the process so I am prepared or let me know of any resources to find the info?

A. Artists have a God gifted miracle in their hands and they can make alot of money buying selling it. If you are an artist, I will advise you to put your pieces of master arts on net for sale and make a bid for them..

How do I shop my original songs to major artists?
Q. I have quite a bit of original material that I major artists in the industry would be PERFECT to perform. The only thing is, I'm not quite sure how to go about shopping it to them. I've done a little research, and I've read on getting a publisher, and even finding an underground artist, and giving them the song to raise your popularity, but I would like some further clarification. I write hip hop, pop, and funky-pop material-great for bands, and solo artists. Does anyone have any experience in this field?

A. If you are a new, unpublished writer going through a publisher is your best bet. If you are an established writer with contacts in the music business, you may be able to effectively self-promote your songs to performers and offer a percentage of the publisher's royalties to the artist as an incentive to record your music. But, as a new writer, you don't have those contacts and it is best to get started through a publisher who can effectively promote your work to artists. To clarify, by "publisher's royalties", I'm referring to the 50% that would normally go to the publisher for their role in promoting your music and getting it "placed."
